Our Graduates Selected as Preliminary Mechanics for China's 42nd Antarctic Scientific Expedition Team
From News Center (Text and Photo by Chen Dong, School of Automotive Engineering) On April 14, 2025, the training program for preliminary mechanic candidates for China's 42nd Antarctic Scientific Expedition Team was officially launched at the LiuGong-LZPU Global Customer Experience Center of Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU). The training was led by Zhang Fuquan, head of the team from the Polar Research Institute of China, and involved nine skilled professionals from LiuGong Machinery Co., Ltd. (LiuGong) in Guangxi, Xiamen XGMA Machinery Co., Ltd. (XGMA), and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences in Beijing.
Two of our graduates, Wei Zhengqiang (enrolled in 2008, majoring in Automobile Inspection and Maintenance Technology) and Li Maoping (enrolled in 2017, majoring in New Energy Vehicle Technology), have been successfully selected as preliminary mechanics for the expedition team, becoming the third and fourth students from LZPU to join the Antarctic research missions. Both of them currently work at LiuGong.
The ten-day intensive training program covers modules including the hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and transmission systems of loaders and excavators. Yan Wei, well-known as the "First LiuGong Man in Antarctic Scientific Expedition", Tao Chao, and other experts delivered theoretical lectures and practical driving instruction. As an important training base for mechanics for Antarctic scientific expedition missions, LZPU has undertaken training tasks consecutively from the 38th to the 42nd expeditions. In the future, we will continue deepening university-enterprise cooperation and contribute further to China's polar research initiatives.
